  • Persons born on or after September 1, 1993, are required to complete a TPWD-certified boater education course successfully and possess a valid photo I.D. in order to operate a vessel with a motor exceeding 15 horsepower or a windblown vessel longer than 14 feet.

  • Operating a personal watercraft (PWC) or a motorboat with an engine exceeding 15 horsepower on public waters is restricted to individuals who are at least 13 years old and have completed a Boater Education Course. Alternatively, supervision by another person is acceptable, provided that the supervisor is at least 18 years old, is authorized to operate the motorboat, and is present on board when the vessel is underway.
